N:      Have you been under stress lately?
P:      You can say that again.  I'm a stock broker(증권 중개인).
N:      What about your diet?  Do you eat greasy food?
P:      Well, burgers and pizza.  I eat on the run(저는 급하게 먹게 돼요).

N:      The sebaceous glands are very active at your age,
         and eating fatty food doesn't help.

P:      I know but I can't help it(저도 알지만 어쩔 수 없어요).
N:      You have to pay extra attention to cleanliness.
         Wash your hands and face often with a mild antiseptic soap
         and don't touch and pick your pimples.  It will leave scars on your face.
P:      I'll remember that.
N:      The doctor will see you now.



Dialogue 2
P:     Hello.  My hands feels so itchy.
        And the skin is peeling, too.
N:     Let me see.  Oh!  It looks bad.
        Where else do you feel itchy?
P:     Down the legs and arms.
        I keep scratching till they bleed.
N:     Hmm.  The skin looks very dry.  Do you use a humidifier?
P:     No.
N:     You should.  It's very dry nowadays with the heating.
        Try to use a humidifier or hang some wet towels in the room.
P:     O.K.
N:     The doctor will probably run some tests and prescribe you a lotion
        and an ointment you can apply.

Role Play
Role play a conversation between a nurse and a patient who has the following conditions.  The nurse asks questions to find out more about the situation.  Then give sensible medical advise.

Patient A:  Athlete's foot
He has athlete's foot.  It's very itchy and he scratches the area constantly.  There are some scabs(딱지).



Patient B:  Skin Rash
She has a skin rash all over her abdomen.  She has had it since Friday when she had dinner with some friends at a sea food restaurant.  She might be allergic to some food.



Patient C:  Eczema
She has been washing clothes and doing the dishes without using any gloves.  The skin is peeling on the finger tips.

Patient D:  Sunburn
She went to the beach on the weekend and fell asleep on the beach.  She did not put any sun tan lotion on.

Patient A:  Athlete's foot

N:     It seems like you have scratched your feet too much.  I can see scabs.
        You have scratched your feet til they bleed.
P:     I couldn't help it because it was very itchy.
N:     You need to see a doctor.
D:     You need to keep your feet clean.  Take the medicine once everyday
        and I'll also prescribe you a topical ointment.  You'll be better in a week.
        Try not to scratch.


Patient B:  Skin Rash

           and medicine to take and advise you to use gloves in the future.
D:         You have a case of Eczema.


Patient D:  Sunburn

         The doctor is here now.
D:      Hi.  I'm Doctor Kim.  I'll examine you with ultrasound.
         Do not tense up.  Relax.
P:      Wheoo!  I'll try.
D:      When was the last time you had a pap smear?
P:      A few months ago.  I get a regular check-up.
D:      Good!  Now, when was your last period?
P:      I'm a few weeks late.
D:      I see.  You can watch the monitor as I examine you.
P:      All right.

N:      Congratulations!  The doctor confirmed your pregnancy.
P:      Wow!  I'm so excited.  I'm going to be a mother!
